FRIENDS superstar Matthew Perry Date Julia Roberts. Well, the truth is; they were dating but they broke up for many years. But now Perry revealed all about his short-lived romance with Julia Roberts in his highly-awaited, upcoming memoir Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing. He did not reveal only the unique way he convinced the Oscar winner to cameo in the legendary sitcom but also confessed why he broke up with Roberts after dating for just two months.
According to Roberts, she and Perry’s first introduction was over the phone, not in person. “He called me up…out of the blue,” she said during a 1996 interview on The Late Show With David Letterman, after acknowledging that she was “dating this Matthew Perry guy.” As for their first date, she added, “I was very nervous because he’s awfully clever and funny and handsome.”
Secretly Matthew dated Julia Roberts after she bombarded him with flirty messages, enjoyed a raunchy affair with Gwyneth Paltrow in a cupboard, and had such a crush on Jennifer Aniston it led to awkward scenes while filming the US sitcom. The pair began dating in 1995 following Julia’s guest appearance on the Friends project.
“This was pre-internet, pre-cell phones. All our exchanges were done by fax.”
“And there were hundreds. Three or four times a day, I would sit at my fax machine and watch the piece of paper slowly reveal her next message.”
“Some nights, I would find myself at a party sharing a flirtatious exchange with an attractive woman and cut the conversation short, so I could race home and see if new fax had arrived. Nine times out of ten, one had.
But what now! No matter, but stick with the page to see the reasons and current presence.
Matthew Perry Date Julia Roberts-Confessions after Broke up
When they both touched the sky in their career, Julia and Matthew found it difficult to spend time with each other. So after a year of dating, they decided to separate their ways. But now Perry revealed the real reasons for breaking up with her.
Through a video message, Perry explained some highlights of his relationship and the separating note with Julia with these words.
“We saw each other for a time, but that had to end. It’s like the busiest guy in the world trying to go out with the busiest girl. “It didn’t work out, but we are friends and get along well.”
Due to his demons and insecurity, Matthew dumped her two months later.
Further, he said: “Dating Julia Roberts had been too much for me. I had been constantly certain that she was going to break up with me”.
“I could never be enough; I was broken, bent, unlovable. So instead of facing the inevitable agony of losing her, I broke up with the beautiful and brilliant Julia Roberts”.
“I can’t begin to describe the look of confusion on her face.”
In 2001, he found himself in rehab watching Julia scoop the Best Actress Oscar for Erin Brockovich.
Perry said: “As she made her speech, a voice rose in that room, in that rehab, urgent, sad, soft, pleading, filled with longing and tears. I made a joke. ‘I’ll take you back,’ I said. ‘I’ll take you back.’
“The whole room laughed, though this was not a funny line in a sitcom. This was real life now.”
“Dating Julia Roberts had been too much for me,” he admitted.
“She might have considered herself slumming it with a TV guy, who was now breaking up with her. I can’t begin to describe the look of confusion on her face.”
Current Presence of Perry and Julia
After the breakup with Julia, Perry has been allied to several other A-list actresses, including Lizzy Kaplan, Neve Campbell, and Heather Graham. Recently, he has been seen with Molly Hurwitz, a literary manager. Both got engaged in November 2020 but got separated after seven months.
In 2004, after finishing the Friends project, Matthew starred in movies like 17 Again and Birds of America, but his television career skyrocketed. He appeared as guest-starred in shows like Scrubs and The Good Wife and recently had a leading role as Ted Kennedy in the mini-series The Kennedys After Camelot.
After six years of splitting with Perry, Julia has found her eternal partner in the face of cinematographer Daniel Moder. The two married in 2002 and share three children—twins Hazel, Phinnaeus, and Henry.
Though Robert’s career pace has not slowed since the 90s, Roberts’s acting career hasn’t slowed since the ’90s. Apart from iconic rom-coms (My Best Friend’s Wedding, Notting Hill, Runaway Bride), Roberts has also taken on more serious roles, like Mona Lisa Smile and Erin Brockovich, in which she won an Oscar for category Best Actress. She will appear with George Clooney in the romantic comedy Ticket to Paradise.
